AFAS Emergency Assistance

Program Description

Air Force Aid Society emergency assistance is available to Airmen and their eligible family members to meet immediate needs in an emergency situation. The Society provides interest free loans and grants based on the individual situation.

  • Medical/Dental
  • Child Care/Respite
  • Moving Expenses
  • Miscellaneous Expenses

Eligibility

  • Active duty Air Force personnel and their eligible family members.
  • Retired Air Force personnel and their eligible family members, but not on a continuing basis, and based on a case-by-case review.
  • Spouses and dependent age children of deceased Air Force personnel (who died on active duty or in retired status).
  • Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve personnel on extended active duty over 15 days under Title 10 USC.

How To Apply

  • Airmen or eligible family members who have an emergency need and are at an Air Force base may apply online or in person at the Air Force Aid office in the Airman and Family Readiness Center.
  • To apply online enter the AFAS Member Portal to access the Application for AFAS Financial Assistance.
  • Airmen or eligible family members who have an emergency and are not near an Air Force base may apply for Air Force Aid assistance through any of the following agencies:
  • Army Emergency Relief (located at Army installations, worldwide)
  • Coast Guard Mutual Assistance (located at Coast Guard installations, worldwide)
  • Navy - Marine Corps Relief Society (located at Navy installations, worldwide)
  • American Red Cross 1-877-272-7337
