Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association

Program Description

The Southern New England Chapter of AFCEA is based around the defense business in southern Rhode Island with prime contractors Raytheon and General Dynamics Electric Boat. Numerous local defense companies support these institutions. The Naval Station Newport is the largest military presence in the area. Naval Undersea Warfare Center provides full spectrum support to the Navy with everything from research to Fleet support. The area has a strong education and training presence in the Naval War College, the Surface Warfare Officers School and the United States Coast Guard Academy. The Chapter presents scholarship awards at ROTC of Connecticut and Rhode Island universities, and colleges, Coast Guard Academy and the Naval War College. They encourage their members to be presenters when there is any relation with the award winners. The Chapter also co-sponsors lunches with other professional organizations and conducts tours of Navy and industrial facilities.
