Program Description Grant and Per Diem Transitional Housing

The VA Grant and Per Diem (GPD) Program awards funds to non-profit community agencies providing transitional housing and offering services to homeless Veterans, such as case management, education, and counseling. The goal of the program is to help homeless Veterans achieve residential stability, increase their skill levels or income, and obtain greater self-determination.

There are several transitional housing programs in Rhode Island funded by the VA as Grant and Per Diem sites. Veterans may stay for up to 24 months.

Services

  • Gateway to Independence is a 50-bed GPD facility in Providence.
  • Cost is $25/month.

Eligibility

  • Male.
  • Homeless.
  • Discharge under honorable conditions.
  • Sober for 30-days prior to entrance.
  • Veterans may not have committed a sex crime.
